Cabled Merino DK · Maelstrom
A whirlpool doesn’t announce itself. One moment the water is moving; the next, you are inside it. Dark, cold, turning. The particular blue-green of water that has no intention of letting go.
Maelstrom is that colour. On some bases it reads with depth and turbulence, darker blues moving within the teal. On others, the same colour sits clear and even at the surface. The same water. Different depths.
On Cabled Merino DK, the eight-ply cabled construction gives Maelstrom a rounded, structured quality. The teal reads deep and settled, the denser twist catching light differently than a standard plied base and giving the colour subtle dimension within each stitch.
Cabled Merino DK is 100% superwash 22.5-micron merino, spun to an eight-ply cabled construction at DK weight. The cabled structure gives this yarn exceptional stitch definition and a rounded, rope-like character that distinguishes it from standard plied merino. At 22.5 microns it is slightly less fine than the Superfine Merino bases, with a correspondingly more resilient and structured hand.
Dyed in small batches in Nanoose Bay, British Columbia, using acid dyes on protein fibre. Each skein is individually hand-dyed. Tonal variation between skeins is natural and part of what makes each piece unique.

Machine washable on a gentle wool cycle, or hand wash in cool water. Lay flat to dry, away from direct sunlight.
Each skein is hand-dyed in small batches, so subtle variations in colour and saturation are part of the character of these yarns. For larger projects, we recommend purchasing skeins from the same dye lot where possible, noted on the label, or alternating between lots as you work for the most even result.
