Cabled Merino DK · Marine Layer
The fog rolls in off the water, no announcement. Sound softens, then edges, then distance itself. The world contracts. To walk in the fog transports you to elsewhere. Shapes drift, in and out. Light arrives from no particular direction. The world retreats behind a curtain, the exhalation of the sea.
Marine Layer is that feeling.
Cool and damp, the colour of the in-between. Where the sea exhales, where the sky descends into water, where the horizon was. Not empty. Everything, but silenced.
On Cabled Merino DK, Marine Layer takes on weight and presence. The grey sits deep and even within the eight-ply twist, the rounded cables giving the colour a density that suits it. Not the wisp of fog at the surface – the weight of it, close in and still.
Cabled Merino DK is 100% superwash 22.5-micron merino, spun to an eight-ply cabled construction at DK weight. The cabled structure gives this yarn exceptional stitch definition and a rounded, rope-like character that distinguishes it from standard plied merino. At 22.5 microns it is slightly less fine than the Superfine Merino bases, with a correspondingly more resilient and structured hand. A workhorse yarn with genuine quality.
Dyed in small batches in Nanoose Bay, British Columbia, using acid dyes on protein fibre. Each skein is individually hand-dyed. Tonal variation between skeins is natural and part of what makes each piece unique.

Frequently asked questions
Machine washable on a gentle wool cycle, or hand wash in cool water. Lay flat to dry, away from direct sunlight.
Each skein is hand-dyed in small batches, so subtle variations in colour and saturation are part of the character of these yarns. For larger projects, we recommend purchasing skeins from the same dye lot where possible, noted on the label, or alternating between lots as you work for the most even result.
