Opal Lace · Maelstrom
A whirlpool doesn’t announce itself. One moment the water is moving; the next, you are inside it. Dark, cold, turning. The particular blue-green of water that has no intention of letting go.
Maelstrom is that colour. On some bases it reads with depth and turbulence, darker blues moving within the teal. On others, the same colour sits clear and even at the surface. The same water. Different depths.
On Opal Lace, 800 metres of baby camel and silk at lace weight becomes something close to weightless. The pale camel base lets
Maelstrom read with full clarity, the silk adding a sheen that shifts the colour between blue and green as the light moves. The naturally warm camel base adds a subtle undertone that gives the teal unexpected depth. Held to the light the silk shimmers within the colour.
Opal Lace is a blend of 50% baby camel and 50% silk, spun to a fine lace weight. Baby camel and silk together produce a softness that has no equivalent in the range, smooth rather than springy, with a natural warmth that merino cannot replicate. At lace weight, the drape is extraordinary.
Dyed in small batches in Nanoose Bay, British Columbia, using acid dyes on protein fibre. Each skein is individually hand-dyed. Tonal variation between skeins is natural and part of what makes each piece unique.

Hand wash in cool water with a gentle wool wash. Lay flat to dry, away from direct sunlight. Avoid wringing or twisting. Block gently to shape if needed.
Each skein is hand-dyed in small batches, so subtle variations in colour and saturation are part of the character of these yarns. For larger projects, we recommend purchasing skeins from the same dye lot where possible, noted on the label, or alternating between lots as you work for the most even result.

A Rare Luxury
Camel fibre is gathered from herds that roam vast, windswept landscapes, built for extremes of heat and cold. Combined with silk, it becomes a yarn as rare as the places it comes from
A Golden Glow
Camel carries its own warmth, a soft, golden undertone that colours settle into. Where yak might cool a shade, camel gives it a gentle glow, warming every colour it touches toward something rich and sun-warmed.
In the Hand
Camel is exceptionally soft, finer and gentler than most wools, with a warmth that feels almost like cashmere. Paired with silk’s smooth slip, this is a yarn that feels as luxurious as it looks.
